How the calculation works
Room areas are combined and the selected waste percentage is applied. The adjusted area is converted directly between square feet, square yards, and square meters.
Formula
Adjusted carpet area = Σ(length × width) × (1 + waste % ÷ 100) Square yards = adjusted square feet ÷ 9
Worked example
A 12 ft × 10 ft room measures 120 square feet. With 10% waste, plan for 132 square feet, about 14.67 square yards or 12.26 square meters.
